About Live Streaming Lighting

A pre-configured three-point lighting preset designed for live streamers and content creators. The page simulates key, fill, and back light positions on a single screen, delivering balanced, professional-looking illumination for webcam and streaming camera feeds. Open it on a secondary monitor positioned at your key light angle for an instant studio lighting setup without dedicated hardware.

Three-Point Creator Key Light Preset

Professional studio lighting uses three light sources — a key light for primary illumination, a fill light to soften shadows, and a back light to separate the subject from the background. This tool delivers a pre-configured approximation of that setup on a single screen. Position the monitor at your key light angle (typically 45 degrees to one side of your face) and the balanced fill creates professional-looking illumination for Twitch streams, YouTube videos, podcast recordings, and video calls. The preset eliminates the guesswork of manual brightness and color temperature adjustment for creators new to lighting.

Instant Studio Setup for Remote Creators

Not every content creator has the budget, space, or setup time for dedicated ring lights, softboxes, and LED panels. This tool provides an instant lighting solution using hardware you already own — a laptop or secondary monitor. Remote workers, online teachers, and aspiring streamers use it to dramatically improve their on-camera appearance without purchasing additional equipment. The pre-configured preset handles the color balance and intensity ratios that would otherwise require lighting knowledge and experimentation. Go fullscreen, position the screen, and you are ready to record or stream.

Consistent Lighting Across Recording Sessions

One of the biggest challenges for content creators is maintaining consistent lighting across different recording sessions. Natural light changes throughout the day, and manual lighting setups can shift between sessions. This preset delivers the same balanced illumination every time you open it, ensuring visual consistency across your content library. Batch content creators who record multiple videos in one session rely on this consistency to maintain a cohesive look. The preset also serves as a reliable backup when your primary lighting fails or when traveling without your usual equipment.

How to use it

  1. 01

Open the tool and go fullscreen

Press F. The pre-configured lighting preset fills the display.

  2. 02

    Position the screen

Place at 45 degrees to one side of your face as your key light.

  3. 03

    Fine-tune if needed

Adjust brightness to match your room's ambient light level.

  4. 04

Download the current view as a PNG

Click the download icon in the top-right toolbar — it sits between the settings gear and the fullscreen button. We detect your display's physical pixel count (screen resolution x device pixel ratio) and rasterize the current configuration into a Retina-sharp PNG. The file lands in your browser's default downloads folder; to save straight to the Desktop, enable 'Ask where to save each file' in your browser settings. The filename includes the resolution so you can keep multiple variants side by side.

Frequently asked

The shortest path between you and the answer.

Can this replace a real ring light?

It is a strong supplement but not a full replacement for a dedicated ring light or softbox. A monitor's light output is lower than purpose-built fixtures. Use it as your primary light in a pinch, or as a fill alongside your main light.

Does it work with any webcam?

Yes. The tool illuminates your face regardless of camera type. Built-in laptop webcams, USB webcams, and phone cameras all benefit from the improved lighting.

Is this tool free?

Yes. Every ScreenTools.co tool is free, with no account, no paywall, and no install.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. Layouts adapt to phone and tablet screens. Mobile Safari restricts true fullscreen, but the page fills the viewport and you can add the page to your Home Screen for an app-like experience.

Does it work offline?

Once a tool's page has loaded once, the runtime is local. A few tools that fetch fonts or icons need the first hit online; after that, refresh works offline.

Does this collect my data?

No personal data leaves your browser. The site has lightweight, privacy-respecting analytics for aggregate counts (which tool was opened) and nothing else.
